Pyer Moss Centering Black Stories
Many of Kerby Jean-Raymond’s Pyer Moss shows have been center stage for addressing issues like representation, race, and Black history. His spring presentation in 2016 was notable for incorporating a film that addressed police brutality and the Black experience alongside the collection. Later shows have continued to highlight Black culture and history, which demonstrates how the runway can function as a vehicle for storytelling and social commentary instead of just a conventional fashion show.
AIDS Awareness Through Red Ribbons on The Red Carpet
One of the most significant examples of red carpet activism came during the 1990s when the red ribbon became an international symbol for AIDS awareness and ultimately began appearing at entertainment industry events. The ribbon became a way to communicate solidarity and increase support and awareness of the cause without having to say a word.
